So it looks like Anet has given up on trying to stop the botters and hurting the players in the process, now they just threaten the players.
Of course, only those who buy gold have anything to fear on the possibility of getting banned, not las if Anet could make a mistake like they think an honest farmer is a bot or anything.

That's what my female ele was created for... But seriously, who cares. If your stupid enough/lazy enough to buy gold then you deserve whatever anet decides to do. If you play the game the way it's meant to be played(farming/selling things/runs etc..) then you have nothing to worry about. It's that simple.

I came into this topic thinking that ArenaNet would punish for Harry Potter spoilers, as every other online institution is doing. I'm dissappointed that this is the threat.
In the meantime...I'll have a fun time in Kamadan tonight, if you know what I mean.

"Threaten" is a bit of an awkward term to use. It's in the EULA, everyone knows it's against the rules, everyone knows it's supporting the bots.
I guess if you feel they are out of line and genuinely threatening you as a customer, you could always go on strike and not play or something...

Actually, I think ANet has finally taken the final step to get rid of Botters here. I have said it before People don't buy E-bay gold = no profit for botters= No botters. Bots arehere because the amount of income they generate is greater then the cost of operation. period. You remove demand you remove profit you remove bots.
Thank you anet.

Hah. Fake spoilers are much more scary than the real spoilers...
The announcement is a sign of weakness in ArenaNet Support, IMO. There's no reason for the announcement; just ban the fools who don't understand the EULA.

POTTER KILLS SNAPE!
no jk...
but it wouldnt be surprising
although i think snape will end up being dumbledores spy under voldemort
wewt i take the off-topic crown ftw.
its pretty simple really....just intimidation....."if you buy gold online you will be banned" problem is they cant claim its gold tracking or something cause i can transfer about 2 mil worth of gold and items back and forth on my two accounts all day and see nothing from em....maybe im just flying below their respective radars =D

Think Anet can access your account info, if they see large sums on money deposited one after the other you get flagged, happens again you get banned.

It's not a sign of weakness in anything. It's dealing with the RMT situation in the same way other MMO games do: by banning/suspending accounts that do it.
You can't stop people from buying gold, that is pretty much a constant. What you can do is dissuade some of the people who do not to. It's sort of a keep honest people honest deal, those who ignore the warning will face the consequences.

Looks like one of those fake signs for your front yard or one of those fake stickers for your car that say you have a security system. Cheap and easy deterrent when you don't want to actually do anything about security.
